Domestic Violence and The Signs of Suicide
The lie embeds itself in the mind and heart of a kindred sister, victim of domestic violence. The lies the abuser shouts at her. The blows of being punched or kicked, or raped in the middle of the night by the man who promised would love her to the end.
Many of my sisters, have been trapped in a life where hope and love is not around. They desire to be saved from the life of hurt and abuse yet, they see no hope for their situation.
Shame, lies, abuse, hurt, hopelessness, and fear surround them.
They look at their present and future; it all looks dark with no hope for change and new beginnings. They give up on life!
1 in 4 women victims of domestic violence will attempt suicide. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 44,000 Americans die each year by suicide.
What are some of the signs of suicide?
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline says that people at risk for attempting suicide will likely exhibit one or more of the following signs.
Expressing feelings of being a burden
Having no reason to live
Talking about wanting to die
Withdrawing from loved ones
Lack of interest in activities
Change of moods out of the ordinary for example, depression, anxiety, irritability, and rage
Suicide isn’t the solution. Suicide can be prevented.
My kindred sisters, you don’t need to keep silent. Help and resources are available to help you through this hard time. Take the first step towards new beginnings.
Be safe my sister.
